Despite getting off to our usual flyer (defeat against Lemmings), there's a distinct note of optimisation about the club this year. It could be the great facilities on offer at Leek Wootton, or the influx of fresh talent(!?) on show at this year's nets which seems to have translated into a larger pool of players for selection. Either way, your correspondent is expecting big things this year and not just from the teas on offer...

A notable landmark was acheived in defeat at the weekend when that redoutable trencherman Peter Romyn passed his first (and let's be honest, probably last) thousand runs for the club, hitting a six into the bargain (a veritable 9-iron according to one bystander). The current batsmen of the year (how could we have ever doubted Suffer's judgement) is now setting his sights on overtaking those part-timers Messrs Jones and Fisher and settling into the top 12.

Skip has finally come out of his post-Xmas eating binge and is now under intensive training - the results are there for all to see on the Flabwatch page, and his sponsors had better start making arrangements for the sizeable payments that will be due come the tour.

Furthermore, please note that selectorial preference is given to "early" payers, so please don't give me an excuse not to select you for the April/May games (yes, muggins has got that particular gig again!)
